Though the news we get about it here has been somewhat muted and sterilized the basic facts remain, in an attempt to enforce their three year blockade of Gaza Israeli forces have attacked, boarded and killed at least nine passengers of a unarmed relief mission in international waters (Some are reporting that a small number of the activists had armed themselves with small knives and sticks, not that it matters against soldiers armed with guns). Let me repeat that last part since it will doubtlessly be glossed over or outright omitted by our American media, they did this in international waters. That alone is a crime, never mind the killing of the passengers, the boarding itself is a crime. And taking an example set by the US of A in the Bush years “Hundreds of activists were towed from the international waters to Israeli detention centers and hospitals”.
The article, you can read in its entirety
here, goes on to note how Israeli forces made sure to cut off all communications and control “the story” from the onset, again taking a page from what we did in Iraq.
Now let me explain why this is a personal tipping point.
In my lifetime Israel has attacked and occupied Lebanon at least twice. Israel has put thousands of “Palestinians” in refugee camps and when radicals within the camps make rocket attacks Israeli forces bulldoze the makeshift shelters of the people in the camps at random (what’s known a group punishment).
And the good old US gave Israel nuclear weapons way back when and we all ignore the fact that this is a clear violation of the non proliferation treaty we are always beating the Arab nations over the head with (any wonder why they are pursuing weapons programs).
When former president Carter rightfully pointed out that the “Palestinians” within Israel have more restrictions and less rights than black South Africans did during Apartheid we are all told that pointing out such things are wrong and “anti-Semitic”, regardless of the fact that they are true.
I have no maliceful feelings toward Jews, Muslims, Buddhists or any other religion so let’s get that out of the way now.
And you will notice that I have been putting the word “Palestinians” in parenthesis, there is a reason for that. You see for Israel to exist it needs to be fair and just to all of its citizens, the people called “Palestinian” are citizens just as surely as the people called Israelis. The fact that the powers that be in Israel seem to refuse to see this is a great deal of the problem. The fact that I no longer believe them capable of ever seeing this is the point at hand.
All my life I have been told that because of what the Germans (and Russians) did during World War Two we all need to give the Israelis a break…look the other way when they over react…look the other way when they blatantly break international laws…that we need to give them a pass because of what happened over 60 years ago. I will be the first person to condemn the actions and crimes that made up “The Holocaust” and the first to vow we must never let it happen again.
But that is the very problem, we are, and have been letting it happen again by inches…no gas chambers yet, just an embargo to starve out the people you don’t like…no ovens yet, but concentration camps? Check. Revoking or outright seizing property? Check. Unlawful acts of aggression? Check. Massacre of unarmed civilians? Check.
Like many others I used to think that much like an abused child if we gave the Israelis some patient guidance we could keep them from growing up to be an abusive parent themselves and heap the abuse they suffered unto someone else. But I no longer believe that.
I used to think that I just had issues with the government of Israel and how they handled their problems. Now, after this latest atrocity they have wrought I understand that I no longer believe in the idea of an Israeli government, or nation. Yes, you read that correctly.
I know that once I utter such words that I will be labeled a Neo-Nazi - anti-Semitic - hate mongerer, but if that is the price of speaking from the heart and following the truth, so be it.
In the 50 or more years since its inception the nation of Israel has proven itself unable to learn from its mistakes and stop attacking its neighbors or abusing a segment of its people. We can no longer support what is clearly an abusive and dangerous nation uninterested in existing within the laws of civilized countries. We need regime change in “Israel”, and we need it now. Too many innocence’s have suffered and died already. How many more must die before we acknowledge the truth staring us in the face?
