I've been here a long time, and I tend to forget. I shouldn't have done it, but I think I'm fairly comfortable. I know it shouldn't be like that. I know what's going on back home and I know that I need to go back. When I left, though, even that feels like a really distant memory. All of the people are here, and I've made up as best I could. It's ( Read more... )

"...hey."

Hermione hovers at the doorway for a few moments, as though trying to decide whether or not to come in, but it's not really much of a question before long as she places a hand on his shoulder, just barely pressing to usher him inside. The door is closed gently enough with her foot as she exhales deeply, a breath held for no good reason at all, and when she blinks, it's very tempting to keep her eyes closed. Physically tired, after all, even if her mind's still buzzing all over the place.

The slight upward tug at her lips fades for a moment as she sees the tension in Ron, the little things she's come to notice even more than before, now that all of them have the time to breathe and relax, away from the war. She hooks her arms around his waist, after moving some of his hair out of the way to get a clear look into his eyes.

"I love you, too."

Finally, the smile edges free a bit, shining through like light through lace, slightly broken but no less soft, nor less honest. There are a lot of things that they need to discuss, and she needs to be more open, and Hermione isn't going to forget that. But important matters first, always.

Even though he'd just broadcast the same words to her, hearing it back, with her standing there and that look on her face even though she looks tired and her eyes... His arms settle easily around her shoulders, where they fit. The tension that's gathering in his guts melts, and for a moment he's slack-jaw fascinated. After another moment, he figures that his chest might burst, a swell of happiness that might be uncalled for, and he grins.

"Yeah. Yeah, I love you. I really do." He's only admitting things that he's been afraid to, he figures. Something like that. He ducks his head to kiss her, forgetting about guilt and everybody's rows for a moment. "Glad that's alright."

Hermione breaks out into laughter, bubbling over even through the kiss, giggles light and airy, shocked and delighted all at once as her arms climb higher up his back, fingertips just barely teasing the curls at the back of his neck. She forces calm into her system just long enough to sneak a second kiss in, slightly longer and slower, ironing out frazzled nerves even as she can still feel something thrumming in her heart as she pulls back, eyes wet.

"You're an idiot if you ever thought that it wasn't," she chides, blinking rapidly to keep anything from spilling over. "Took you long enough. To say it, at least, although I suppose suspense isn't a bad thing, I..."

Her voice cuts off, threatening to crack a little, and Hermione fills the silence with a quick shake of her head.

"I love you, Ron," she simply states again, pushing a bit onto her toes--he's so blasted tall. "Sorry I've been... a bit difficult."

Ron's finally able to settle into a contented smile, though he has to resist echoing the vow yet again once she repeats it. As she attempts to rise on her toes, he assists by ducking his head again, forehead touching hers and smile unwavering. "I'm sorry I've done a lousy job of noticing, really. I knew that everyone's one-edge, but I... I realize I probably don't know half of the reasons."

Her face colors even more when their foreheads touch, just a bashful reaction that persists despite the fact that they've been together for months. Maybe a byproduct of some level of disbelief. His last admission, however, does make Hermione sober up a bit, as drunk as she is off the sudden mood high, arms now circling Ron's neck.

"I don't know if you even... want to know half of the reasons. And I don't think you've been bad at noticing, it's just... I guess I didn't expect that you would address it so directly." Fear pulls at her expression, just a bit, before she holds Ron's gaze steady. "Do you think it's wrong to let Malfoy know some of the stuff we've learned in the City?"
