The players showed up at the warehouse where they had arranged to meet Octavius. After busting open the lock, the party entered to find Octavius pouring tea with a gorilla at his side. The party had an increasingly awkward exchange in which Octavius explained that he eats souls (which the party didn't approve of), and they let slip that they'd busted up his cronies on the train (which he didn't care for). In the end the party left with a slippery misdirection implying they'd consider what they'd heard, then they fled.
It was 3 in the morning, they were hungry, they needed somewhere to plan: Thus, Denny's. The waitress was less than pleased to be working the graveyard shift, and left the party alone to discuss their options. After some extensive wrangling and arguing ("Denny's is a great place to meet!" "Denny's is a godforsaken hellhole.") The party agreed to... well, not much. Octavius was definitely bad. Maybe. T-wan split to score some moonshine, while Fizban went off to talk to dead people out of boredom. The others went to visit Veleno. They wanted answers.
The party woke Veleno up, much to his chagrin. After some concessions and some alarming explanations, the party agreed that something needed to be done about Octavius's plan, and that meant getting the book back from Murphy.
Some quick detective work led the party to Murphy's appartment the next morning. Most of the party fast talked their way into the apartment, while T-wan smooth-talked his way into the ancient landlady's panties. The party found a gun, but no book, and no sign of Murphy; he was at the plant.
Some hazmat suits and fancy talking later, the party busted into Murphy's lab. The fight was fast and one-sided. Murphy's ace in the hole was neutralized by the party's hazmat suits. They beat him, freed the spirit trapped in his fetish, and then saved his life. Murphy's world thusly turned upside down by this unexpected act of kindness, he ran off to try and figure things out. The spirit, a spirit of purity called Silicon Avatar, cleansed Fizban of toxins completely, which was a strange experience for him.
With Murphy gone, the party turned their attention to the metal object that he'd been building. While fizban worked to send the spirit home, Zach tried to figure out how to take the thing apart. In the end they sent the spirit home, and they busted up the machine. The machine imploded, pulling them in and knocking them out.
They woke up in a train. They quickly realized they were in the twilight and something was wrong. The went to the next car... only to find out it was a ballroom on a cruise ship. Several more disjointed rooms later, they found a library. They searched in vain for a way off, but at the end of game, they were still stumped.
New hotness
I liked the interactions at the Denny's. First time I felt the party was a party and not a group of strangers thrust together by chance.
I liked playing Octavius. He'll be fun to bring back.
I liked that Visaly's player took the whole cleansing thing and ran with it. I threw it out there as a lark, but I like what he's done with it.
Old and busted:
The ghost train scene was less than fabulous. I will admit that it is almost purely to do with poor preparation. I should have figured out where I wanted to put the clues. I also forgot to include an NPC I meant to have, and to create a prop. I should be able to get both of these things done before the next game done though, and I should be able to insert them smoothly enough. I think with a little more thought I can clean up the scene when we come back to it and throw a few clues the party's way. ;
