Just For The Record, here are all of the apartments i've viewed:
1. flat in emeryville with overly extensive, invasive background check. nice place though.
2. place in north berkeley. the guy i had been corresponding with about it managed to rent it within 48 hours of last communicating with me, didn't inform me of this, and so ultimately i drove all the way to north berkeley for nothing. let's hear it for guys in their 20's!
3. 2-bdrm apartment in downtown berkeley. the smallest 2 bedroom i'd ever seen-- it was shoebox sized. the girl living there was extremely perky. she ended up not choosing me, but at least let me know-- and was really perky about rejecting me as well.
4. place in west berkeley. the woman i met with about it was somewhat large, slow-moving, and slow-talking. there was a tv in the kitchen. she asked me virtually no questions, and never contacted me to let me know she'd apparently chosen someone else, even though i asked her to let me know.
5. livingroom in west berkeley. very nice one-bedroom, but i would have been in the livingroom. the girl showing the place was kind of like an android. didn't smile the whole five or so minutes i was there (she practically shooed me out).
6. 3-bdrm apartment in el cerrito. the guy who was showing it was very russian, and awkward. a physics grad student, i think. he had found one other roommate, a male, geeky, asian math grad student. i fled. ok location, though.
7. 2 bdrm apartment in el cerrito. i'm leaning towards this place. crappy floors and gross bathroom, but a good size and a good ?vibe.
going to see at least two other places this week.
