so, we have nine hours of band practice before our first ever gig. at this gig, we will be doing five songs. here's a run down of where we stand with each:
But Aquaman, You Cannot Marry A Woman Without Gills
it's pretty much there. true, we end it differently every time and i still fuck up my own words and Folu forgets to sing his bit half the time, but it's the song i have least worries about. it starts off with Folu on the acoustic and ends up with an ace metal breakdown and me going very over the top with the SCREAMZ. also, Marc plays a bit from a popular 90s telly show. you'll have to come watch us to find out which programme though. just so you know, it's about how, y'know, we all have a bad time of it sometimes, but it's up to us to find a way out.
Make Like A Tree And Get Outta Here
this is the most balls out party rock song we have, despite not yet having been practiced with vocals. this is down to the fact that they were only worked out on Tuesday and written, by no means definitively, yesterday. it's gonna have three way shouty vocals on the chorus and then a full blown scream-fest throughout the chorus. think Penny from The Automatic and George from Alexisonfire singing on an A song. and then get ready for a massive singalong. also, the intro is beautiful, but very Not Punk. it's about how awesome it is to start a band in your mid to late 20s. we win.
right, that's the up tempo numbers...
If For Any Reason You're Not Satisfied With Our Service, I Hate You
another song without vocals, this doesn't even have finished lyrics yet. however, it will have some amazing drums ala Authority Song by Jimmy Eat World, so that's alright. we played around with the structure the other night, and it's now gonna start like a slightly country-esque singer/songwriter type song and build up all the way through into a full blown country rock behemoth. i'm the only one calling it country by the way. i'm sure the others would have their own take. we're intending the screaming to come in at the end, but i'm not so sure it needs it, but it'll be the full band practice that decides. lyrically, it's about heading off about the place and getting bladdered around the country/world with your mates.
Hug It Out, Bitch
Folu's writing the words for this, but it's going to feature him, me and Marc all sharing a vocal part on it. it's somewhere between a slower Hundred Reasons song and something that, musically, Deftones might put out. i like it a lot, especially the middle eight that Marc wrote the other night. screams will feature. oh yes they will.
and the song that isn't ours...
our cover version
we've only done this about twice and only 2/3 of the way through. it'll be alright though. no worries on this. i rap, innit.
anyway, that's what all that is about. it appears we have a lot of work to do in nine hours, but i think we can get everything in the first three, and then spend six nailing everything. the trading of vocals on 'Make Like A Tree' are gonna take the most work. fact.
