Ministry with the Homeless
We had our first meeting with a local (to SE Portland) ministry to the homeless on Sunday afternoon. They have a simple church 'service' followed by a meal which is open to anyone, whether they have participated in the service or not. It's in the basement of an old, old church building on 39th. This area of the city has become the place where the homeless live because the city has systematically 'shoo'd' them out of the downtown area.
Anyway, God has opened some new doors of opportunity to minister to the poor, homeless, or needy. We've been invited to help out while the current pastor is taking a family trip to the beach next week. I look forward to it!
