Remembrance Day

Thank you, veterans.

greatpoets has a lot of appropriate poems for today (one of which I even posted). Poems are one of our greatest forms of cultural memory, and we cannot forget the sacrifices that have been made on the world's battlefields, regardless of whether we agree with the causes of the battle.

So, too, is prayer. Here is one I wrote for today:

Odin and Freya, divine Warriors,
We bow before Your matchless valour,
For You have ridden countless times into battle.
You know the faces of every soldier;
You have seen their suffering and their sacrifice;
You have seen their fearlessness and their fortitude.
You have led their dead to Valhalla and to Folkvangr.
We thank You for riding with them,
For lending them still more strength and courage when needed,
For welcoming them into Your halls when they fall.
To these honoured heroes, both living and dead,
Please convey our deepest gratitude.
They have offered more than we can imagine.
