the elections are coming next january of 2009. i have yet to really get involved in the presidential race because i feel like there is no one i am really passionate about. i really didnt want obama to win just because i dont think everyone is ready for a black president and i didnt want hilary to win just because she is a clinton but if it came down to both of them, i would probably choose hilary. but i had no actual premise on which to back that up so i decided to read over some transcipts of the democratic debates in order to find out what each one is known for and so on so i could better choose who i want to win. although i probably wont be voting, if after reading them and seeing what is to come in the next year, i decide that i strongly want one over the other, than i will vote just to further push and support that candidate. but i dont want to vote because that is what gets you put on the jury duty list. haha. but w/e...what must be done, must be done.
so here is what i found with regards to the two most different things about each of their campaigns:
Clinton: First, on health care. I believe absolutely passionately that we must have universal health care. It is a moral responsibility and a right for our country, and I have put forth a plan similar to what Senator Edwards had before he left the race that would move us to universal health care.
I think it's imperative that we approach this mortgage crisis with the seriousness that it is presenting. There are 95,000 homes in foreclosure in California right now. I want a moratorium on foreclosures for 90 days so we can try to work out keeping people in their homes instead of having them lose their homes, and I want to freeze interest rates for five years.
Obama: Let's take health care. About 95 percent of our plans are similar. We both set up a government plan that would allow people who otherwise don't have health insurance because of a preexisting condition, like my mother had, or at least what the insurance said was a preexisting condition, let them get health insurance.
We both want to emphasize prevention, because we've got to do something about ever escalating costs and we don't want children, who I meet all the time, going to emergency rooms for treatable illnesses like asthma.
I have put forward a $10 billion home foreclosure prevention fund that would help to bridge the lender and the borrower so that people can stay in their homes.
I have not signed on to the notion of an interest rates freeze, and the reason is not because we need to protect the banks. The problem is, is that if we have such a freeze, mortgage interest rates will go up across the board and you will have a lot of people who are currently trying to get mortgages who will actually have more of a difficult time.
This is just the beginning of what i want to read up on about them. but its a little teaser and overview of the most important issues right now besides the war.
