Dumbledore’s Army

Happily this chapter is shorter, and the next one is The Lion Versus the Serpent and Teh H/D!111, maybe to make up for the approaching ‘Hagrid’s Tale.’

In which there is a bad 80s training montage and Harry gets a whistle. And the ability to read Voldie’s mind. But not to shut up.

Also, I don’t usually rec fic here, but thisRead more... )

* He gazed for a moment into the cracked Foe-Glass; shadowy figures were moving around inside it, though none was recognisable.

Why? Aren’t Harry’s enemies fairly obvious? Ooh, maybe not.

I think that the FoeGlass thing works that as the enemies get closer to him their images get clearer, iirc. FakeMoody says he isn't real danger until he can like "see their eyes" or the "whites of their eyes" or something.

Um. Why do they have to raise hands?
I think it's just a gut reaction from Hermione. ;)

I would think by the time they got close enough to see the white of their eyes, I'd recognise who they were; but then, perhaps I'm not properly visualising a Foe-glass - I guess it's really smoky.
Thanks for reminding me, though - haven't read GoF in full for ages...

I always just kinda pictured them as shadowy figures and they get more clear as they get closer to him. And seeing as how he probably has more than one, it's not that he can't recognize them but it's hard to tell the difference between them? I picture some of them lurking way back in the background just like black shifty shapes and probably some others who are closer (like Umbridge) are maybe a little clearer. I remember when Crouch was explaining it to Harry in GoF that the shapes were very close even though his some of his enemies (Dumbledore, McGonagall, Snape, etc) were in the castle with him.

Ha. Can anyone name one piece of useful knowledge Sirius has imparted? On anyone? Ever?

Actually, yes. He's pretty good with the advice in GoF, and even in OotP he has his moments. He's just horrible about living up to it.

I'm not really getting a sense that anyone exists outside their relationship with Harry. In fact, it's like a (even more) warped version of the Truman show.

LOL. It really is, isn't it?
