Auto tips to save money and fuel

I've decided to let you in on some automotive secrets to help maintain your vehicles working condition.

A fuel system cleaning additive will help maintain an efficient running engine and increase your fuel mileage. Here is my rating :

#1. Redline Products SI-1..........The Best!
#2. Any additive with Techron...........A close second!
#3. Gumout...........Crap!
#4. STP..............Crap!
#5. There are several others but go with the first two and save yourself some time and money. Follow the directions and you'll be fine.
The first two are the best that I've used and are priced around $6 to $8.

Just Before an oil change, I suggest an oil detergent additive be added to your engine so that it helps clean the inner sludge/varnish that may be blocking oil journals and thus limiting your oil flow. Run it to standard operating temperature for a little while but no more than a day's worth of driving. Then change the oil. There are quite a few to choose from. I haven't tested them yet but I will. Be sure to use the manufacturers specified oil but if you want to spend the money, I do suggest a synthetic blend. It will improve the life of your engine.

You do not need to buy premium gas all the time. You can buy an octane booster for your fuel that will increase your octane more that what is sold at gas stations plus if you use the fuel line detergents every 3000 miles, it'll clean the impurities the cheap gas left in you system anyway. I've found Chevron fuel with Outlaw Octane Booster to be the best for my engines and it's $5.00 for a container that does 21 gallons.

A clean air filter will help your car breath better and run smoother thus giving better fuel mileage. I use a reusable K&N air filter that I clean at every oil change. Cheap ones will work as well but if you're going to have your car several years the math tells the story:

4 new filters a year for five years......$130 to $250
1 K&N reusable filter and recharge kit...$35 to $70 (with a sweet warranty too)
Extra recharge kits...$10.00 (the original kit has lasted 1 1/2 years for me)

I'll post more later. I'm a little on the tired side right now. This will be enough to get you started. I'm only telling you all this because I have a good-sized truck with mild tires which gets 11 mpg highway and 9 mpg city and I'm currently paying around $110 for each full tank of gas!

....you can thank me buying me a beer the next time you see me!
