Pyromaniac..

Today is Friday, which means one thing.. I had scene shop for 4 hours after my last class. Its part of being a theater major - you get credit for being an "employee" of one of the shops in our department. Now, in previous weeks, I have helped construct a deck bench (2x4's, staple gun, screw gun), been given the task of cutting steel tubing with a metal band saw (which now seems to be my typical job) and I've even been able to flex my creative muscles by paper mache`ing sections of plywood.

I'm learning lots of things. 12" long steel tubing isn't heavy, but moving it is very cumbersome.. like driving a bus. The brown USM van needs some serious coaxing in the acceleration department if you ever need to move it. The lubricant used in the band saw is supposedly made of fish guts. When hanging old curtains.. don't breathe - God knows what is in that dust. And best of all.. I am one step closer to knowing how to weld. Yes, today I was taught how to cut through steel with an oxy-acetylene torch!

In two words - it rocked! And for those of you that have NO CLUE what I'm talking about.. check out the pic. http://www.artmetal.com/enrique/wrought/tables/nouveau/console/torchcu1.htm

Yep, lots of sparks, metal hot enough to melt through my converse.. LOTS OF FUN.

What can I say, they're losing me to the techies more every day. As long as I get to play with power tools, I think I'll be happy here.
