The Day Destiny Was Born
I was going through some old journal entries and found this one:
It was freezing when I woke up this morning (that’d technically be Wednesday morning), so I spent a crazy forty minutes in the shower-yeah, I don’t know how that happened either. But the cool thing is that I spaced out in there and imagined the most concrete plotline yet for the end of ATH Book IV. I wouldn’t dare spoil it for you, but I will say that if it were filmed it would require mad, extensive special effects, including but not limited to:
I recognized this scene instantly! This is the dramatic climax of After The Hero. Even though it's at the end of Book IV and there is still Book V after it (by the old scheme), this is essentially the decisive moment that the entire story is built around. It's the scene that I composed "All We Ever Were" to musically accompany.
It's hard to imagine it not having existed forever, as though Relancii history were real and I have merely spent all these years learning it. But no, I created it. And, thanks to that friends only journal entry, I now know that the date I created it was November 5, 2003, during a 40-minute hot shower on a freezing cold day.
The journal entry also included some details of the event (hence why it was friends only). Several of those details are now outdated, but the general crux of the scene is very much the same to this day.
Friends! O, Friends! I sorely lament my struggles in life, and limitations, and how they bog me down. I genuinely don't know if I will live long enough to get this all done. If I am cut short tomorrow, I certainly won't. But even if I live another 41 years it is still a questionable prospect.
I need a rich benefactor, lol. You have no idea how corrosive to my whole being this lifelong struggle with the rent has been (and continues to be). All I ask is room and board out of mind, and I am not especially picky, nor as big of an eater as I would like to be.
But that will never be. And so if I am to succeed creatively, it will be in tandem with surviving materially.
