Relaxing Christmas

Dec 26, 2023 22:14

I had my best Christmas in many years, certainly since the Troubles, because it was so restful. I remember standing at the bathroom sink at one point and saying to myself, "If you're not careful Josh, this Christmas is going to become downright relaxing."

Over the years I have forgotten how to destress. I am stressed out all the time. But on the 24th and 25th, other than a quick run to the Bagelry at the beginning of the former, I did so much nothing that it was unavoidably restful. I had Bagel and Lox both days, and other feast-foods. On Christmas Day I had coffee and cookies, and listened to some Christmas music, and caught up on my hellos with some folks, and I spent a big chunk of the later portion of the day writing a devastating scene for Silence, and I had no cares in the world (other than for her perhaps). Oh, and it was overcast all day long, the best weather I had any right to ask for.

I don't even remember what all I did, not really, because there was so much nothing. It actually managed to be relaxing, and coming back to the real world today was a step down into mundanity.
