Stupid government tricks #440,681,099,726,...
A few years ago, our government tried introducing (or re-introducing) a dollar coin. It didn't catch on. People said they confused it with a quarter (even though the new coin had a woman's face and eleven sides.) Okay, they tried again with a gold colored coin. Again, no go.
Now they have it solved. The perfect way to tell a dollar coin apart from a quarter. Make it round, color it silver and put George Washington on the front. Ta-da. Problem solved courtesy of all those nice little government whiz kids.
Oh, the reason people won't confuse the round, silver, George Washington dollar with the round, silver, George Washington quarter? For the last several years, the same government brain pool has been changing the design on the quarter every three months (and has now started in on the nickel) so that we can't tell them from Chuck E. Cheese tokens.
Our tax dollars (and quarters and nickels) at work.
