A nice relaxing weekend...in the midst of cranking out "Splurge Guns" for Bugsy Malone, Jr., opening in two weeks at Conejo Players Theatre (Conejoplayers.org). Six Model-II and eleven Model-III are now finished and waiting for a "live fire" test. Now to start on the twelve Model-I splurgers. So far I've gone through four ten-foot lengths of ABS pipe, 50 feet of 1X2, 150 brackets, two-dozen toy saws, two-dozen toy AK-47's, a dozen dart rifles, three dozen air pumps, a dozen water squirters, ten cans of metallic-black spray paint, hundreds of screws, washers, nuts, and bolts, and my all time favorite -- hot glue. Waiting in the wings is the "ammo," four dozen cans of shaving cream and 150 confetti six-shooters. This is going to be one MESSY show.
I brought the guns "in-progress" to a run-through at the theater yesterday so the cast and crew could get their first look at them. The kids were chomping at the bit to start using them and actually bury each other in shaving cream. The crew was trembling in their boots at the thought of loading and cleaning out 26 guns per show. Not to mention cleaning the stage (and the audience?)after each of seven separate "splurgings" during each performance. Okay, six splurgings and one cream pie...still messy.
If all goes well, I should have the splurge guns all ready today. Then I get to start on the other props and sound effects. Keep telling me I do this for the fun of it.
