Day 17 - Favorite antagonist.

EVERY. SINGLE. CHRONO. TRIGGER. BADDY. But seriously there are three from this game that I just cannot pick from. I love them all for different reasons and I’ll chat about all three here. So let’s dig in shall we?

First we have Dalton. One of the most competent antagonists in the genre since when he catches you he takes away your weapons and you have to stealth it up and find them again. Why you can’t use all the magic your characters are bristling with at this point is a different matter entirely. But the real reason I think he is great is he is such a goof; the game almost alternates between serious and wacky bad guys but Dalton is the only one I really ever found funny.
Next we have Magus who is better developed than any other villain in the game. He first shows up as a flat evil mage type character that serves as Frog’s motivation but then we meet him as a kid and see how he went from one to the other and in the end he reluctantly joins your side. I like this kind of character and I know there are plenty like him in other games but if I talk about them then that would be less time I get to talk about Chrono Trigger.
Last up we have Flea! No I’m joking the last one is Lavos. Alien invaders in fiction always have some use for earth or humans and half the time it seems really forced for a race that can travel the vastness of space in no time. Lavos on the other hand is a parasite and is just floating around and happens to hit the planet where he waits to gain strength before eating the place. It’s refreshing for the bad guy to be so simple and not have some huge complex plan.

So protagonist is next and will it be from Chrono Trigger? You all know it is going to be so why did I bother even asking. I’ll explain why it isn’t Tifa again tomorrow. So for now I’m Silica and don’t go doing anything I wouldn’t.
