Can Photoshop be destroyed? I'm so sick of people saying they're 'models' when all they do is take a few photos of themselves from flattering angles, photoshop them beyond belief and whore them about on their MySpace. Or saying they're 'photographers'. Anyone can make photos look good if they have a decent enough digital camera and can clean the images up on fucking Photoshop. Also being a DJ shouldn't be seen as such a 'cool' thing. It's just playing songs but with vinyls. Any fool can manage that. I'm a model! I'm wearing clothes and I get paid for it! Well, I'm wearing clothes, why can't I get paid for it? Gah. I wish the world would quit spamming me with bullshit. I'm so bored with people trying to make me believe I'm socially inferior.
Okay. Pointless rant done.
EDIT: A very incredible conversation that this post spawned, between myself and Kirstygirl:

Your post on people with photoshop ties in with my debate on everymans photography and art XD
Gargoyle Practise says:
Hahahah excellent
Gargoyle Practise says:
Glad I could be of service
Gargoyle Practise says:
What's the debate?
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
Might use it for my dissertation lol
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
Well
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
Let me phrase it well XD
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
um
Gargoyle Practise says:
Okay
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
Does the wide availiability of digital cameras and canvas printing, the cheap Ikea art print and Photoshop 'painting' using photos cheapen 'real' artwork
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
...I think that covers it
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
or: Has commercialisation destroyed the value of art?
Gargoyle Practise says:
Hmmm
Gargoyle Practise says:
Yes
Gargoyle Practise says:
It has
Gargoyle Practise says:
Any fucker can be an artist now if they've got a big enough paycheck
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
But...some art like pop art has used this
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
so urghh
Gargoyle Practise says:
Two dots on a sheet of paper is not actual art
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
its a real debate lol
Gargoyle Practise says:
BUT popart was using consumerism against itself; although prints by say Warhol are worth a lot now, originally they were taking the piss out of commercialism, and making the point that a tin of Campbells soup is a far more recognisable image that something by Van Gogh
Gargoyle Practise says:
That's how I see it anyway
Gargoyle Practise says:
Read some Baudrillard, that might help.
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
Yeah!
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
the Dadaists destroyed their art rather than have it sold to the borgoisie
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
I totally spelled that wrong but
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
brain leak
Gargoyle Practise says:
Fuck the bourgeiouse, I don't even WANT to know how to spell it
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
hahahaha
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
THATS MORE LIKE IT
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
Art Nouveau was one of the first commercial art movements
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
well
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
for the middle classes
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
I THINK
Gargoyle Practise says:
Exactly, and it's kind of shit
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
XD
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
but at the time it was new!
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
Like Impressionism used to be shocking
Gargoyle Practise says:
It provides a form of art that looks like it means something but in reality, most modern art is simply judged by how much it costs
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
and people who try to avoid that usually end up caught up in it anyway?
Gargoyle Practise says:
Movements like Impressionism were never about the money, most people didn't even buy them, they were reacting against something
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
yes
Gargoyle Practise says:
That's true but I just think that modern art has no point to it
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
Or maybe it struggles to have a point
Gargoyle Practise says:
It was accepted so quickly that it didnt have time to be revolutionary; it instantly became stale and useless
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
but our world is so commercialised it takes it all away
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
and shock factor has been taken away too
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
its become old
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
maybe
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
our culture is so obsessed with inbuilt obselecence
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
that its even affected the art
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
we want a new model every half a year
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
every month!
Gargoyle Practise says:
Exactly!
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
OOOH
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
I like this
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
well
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
I don;t
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
but I like the topic
Gargoyle Practise says:
And it's all to do with financial gain
Gargoyle Practise says:
The society we live in has become so desensitised that we get bored ridiculously quickly; today's big thing is so quickly relegated to old news that nothing seems to have time to become meaningful
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
Although, looking from the other side - its hard to do anything in this modern world without earning money
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
everything is packaged and sold to you
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
unless you became an artist who built things out of natural objects
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
you need money for supplies
Gargoyle Practise says:
True, but there are forms of art that take that and turn it against itself...I think the DIY culture jamming movement could be considered a type of art
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
We don't really have any proper counter cultures right now
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
yay culture jamming!
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
But we don't really have any good culture jamming movements do we?
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
not ones that are making any real effect
Gargoyle Practise says:
There's plenty in America, but I don't think Britain has really seen the influx of advertising that would warrant that sort of movement
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
True
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
But I'm sure we'll get there
Gargoyle Practise says:
Plus, in a culturally biased sense, I don't think English people are that stupid
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
hahahaha hmmmmmm
Minvasion! __Official Member of Sella says:
some of them definitely are
