the wild life of suburbia

I walked down the hill to the local strip mall just now, to pick up some new kibble for my girl cat (whose blood tests have just come back indicating early-stage kidney disease, sigh) and also some groceries for us. The mall has an inner corridor that's shops on the inside and all windows and a few glass doors on the outer wall, looking out into the parking lot, and there are a few scrubby trees wedged in between the grocery store and the asphalt. And my eye was caught by a sign taped to the window:



So I look up, and sure enough, in the tree right outside, about eight feet up:



Her little face! Her little feet! So cute (in a could-rip-my-cat-apart sort of way)!



It does seem like an odd place for a raccoon to pick to snooze the day away, though: right in the sunlight for much of the day, and tons of cars and people passing by...
