"Opening": Hotch visits Shaunessy, former investigator, who Hotch had worked with 10-years prior on a case in Boston.
THE SERVANT // DEVIL
Knocking on my door was an evil silhouette
And his eyes were glowing like two lit cigarettes

I looked in the mirror into my own eyes

"I know you know it’s time to go"

"Til death do us part": Shaunessy explains the "deal with the devil" he made with "The Reaper", to Hotch, and dies later that night, voiding the contract and allowing the killings to resume.

"That was your choice; not mine. You're the serial killer": Hotch and the team are in a stand-off with George Foyet after discovering he is "The Reaper". Foyet puts down his weapon and is arrested.

"You should have made a deal": Hotch awakens in the hospital and remembers he returned to his apartment to find "The Reaper". He begins to have flashbacks of the stabbing and torture that ensued.

Everybody knows that the boat is leaking
Everybody knows that the captain lied
Everybody got this broken feeling
Like their father or their dog just died
"I'm not leaving the team; I'm just no longer in charge": Haunted by Foyet, memories and having to send his family away, the team becomes aware of how fragile Hotch is after he begins to break down on the job. Hotch steps down, putting Morgan in charge.
GOTHMINISTER // MONSTERS
We have been locked up in this evil house
It is where you live with your wicked monsters
We are the prisoners of death and decay
It is where you live, but your dreams betray
"It's great to see you squirm, Agent Hotchner": Hotch and Prentiss go to question "The Fox" about a case similar to his, after realizing someone has been sending him information about that case. It is later discovered that the letters were from Foyet and intended for Hotch.
MUDVAYNE // NOT FALLING
I...I stand, not crawling, not falling down
I...I bleed the demons that drag me down
"He withstood everything that Foyet had": The BAU focuses exclusively on finding Foyet. They eventually realize that he has been watching the U.S. Marshal assigned to protect Haley and Jack. They go to the Marshal's home and find that Foyet already got to him. Kassmeyer tells Hotch that Foyet knows where Haley and Jack are. "She's going to him".
THE HOOSIERS // KILLER

"You didn't know where Haley was, so you made her come to you": Foyet taunts Hotch over the phone while the team listens in. Hotch begins to fill with rage and fear as he drives around, trying to find Foyet and convince him not to do this. Garcia tries to track the cell phone but it is bouncing between towers.

"Open the gate and I'll drive in": Hotch is on and off the phone with Foyet while driving; racing to his home to save his family. The team is on their way too but Hotch has a head start.

"I know you didn't sign on for this": Hotch talks to Haley over the phone while Foyet and the team listen in on their conversation. Haley sends Jack away to "work the case". Then, she and Hotch exchange their last words.

"I don't have to think. I know he would have tried to kill my son too": Hotch and Foyet battle it out, inside the house; crashing down the stairs. Eventually Hotch gains the upper hand and, consumed by rage, bludgeons Foyet to death as memories of his family and the pain Foyet inflicted on so many flash through his mind.
JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH // AIR -SUITE NO. 3 IN D MAJOR
"Get out of here. Go see if they need help downstairs": After going to Jack's hiding spot, finding that he is safe, Hotch sends him off with JJ and goes to see Haley. He holds her, clenching her tight and begins to sob.
THE VERVE // BITTERSWEET SYMPHONY

But tonight I'm on my knees, yeah.
I need to hear some sounds that recognize the pain in me, yeah.
I let the melody shine, let it cleanse my mind, I feel free now.
But the airwaves are clean and there's nobody singing to me now.
"I'm so sorry for your loss": The meeting between Hotch, Strauss and the committee concludes. Tears stream down Hotch's cheeks as he rises from his seat and leaves the board room.
THE REINDEER SECTION // YOU ARE MY JOY

I would cradle you tight in my arms, always
"So much of what is best in us is bound up in our love of family, that it remains the measure of our stability because it measures our sense of loyalty": Hotch enters the room where the team and Jack are. Jack goes to him. Hotch picks him up and holds him close.
