Paige's Wedding

Oct 03, 2012 19:23

My Cousin Paige has lived her life backwards- Not that she planned it that way but sometimes thats just what life gives you. At 21 she had a son and raised him alone. It's funny how the people you CAN'T picture as parents often make the best parents of all.  I also never pictured us being as close as we have become.

At 8 my sister got tired of me following her and my cousin Janell around and tried to Pawn me off on Paige. "Go play with Paige for a while" "Nu ah, she's a baby. She's only 5!" "No she's not... didn't you hear, she had 3 birthdays this year and is now the same age as you." This intrigued me. I didn't know that was an opition, so I became sold on the idea that my youger cousin Paige was now the same age as me. (I never said I was smart). And over the years we hung out, became pen pals when she moved to another part of the state, and at 18 she moved back to the area where we shared an apartment. I could tell you a crap load of funny stories about us living together but I'll save that for the bio... or at least another day.

When she had Trey and moved back to Chico our lives were split. I went on to get married and she went on to raise her son. Surprisingly enough, she settled down into her life and seldom dated. All her time was dedicated to raising her son into this incrediable human being. Over the course of this last year, her brother (who is my age), had his wife die of cancer and Paige packed up her life and moved out to Tahoe to be by him and help him raise the 3 young children he had. She quit her job and was lucky enough to pick up a job where her brother worked. She has been there less than a year, and ended up falling in love with their boss.

She phoned me 3 weeks ago to tell me she got enaged and was planning a small fast wedding in my area so that our family could all be together, that is IF we could make it. I wouldn't have missed it for the world. I am so happy to know that she has found someone and to watch them together is amazing. They have googly eyes and can't keep their hands off each other. So at long last she is coming to the close of motherhood and starting her new life as a wife.

The wedding was on the beach, small, only about 20 people and as it wrapped up, the photographer started taking pictures.... and so did this other woman. She stood next to the camera man matching him shot for shot and smiling. The family stood off to the side watching and occationally being called in to a shot. "who's the other photographer?" someone from the grooms side asked. "We thought she was with YOUR side." "no... we have no idea who she is." the woman didn't seem to speak a lick of English. She was Asian and I began to notice she had her entire family with her. They also stood off to the side watching.

As the bride and groom started up the beach to the stairs and they announced them by their new shared name, everyone clapped... and the Asian woman ran after them, begging them to stop. "Picture?" she asked. Confused they looked at one another and awkwardly nodded. She squeezed in between them and had her husband take pictires of her with the new couple. I had to laugh, "well at least you will have an interesting story to tell when you look back on your wedding day. You had Asian weddign crashers." haha
