Came home last night all happy because there was an inch of snow. Woke up this morning and there were 8 inches...
So I dressed appropriately (walking boots featured, stylish) and ventured out, deciding to get the boat to Waterloo as all the tubes and trains seemed to be out. This involved a long wait, and being interviewed by a lovely chap from Radio 1 - I don't think I got used, but he was very nice. Then I reached Waterloo, and realised that, yes, trains are running but they are few and far between and while I could get to work, I might not get back. Having already rung in to say I will be late, and been told if it's too hard then not to bother, I opt to head for home instead of risking being stranded. So off I trek to the boat again.
I built a snowman on our front steps, gave him a magnificent snowy hat in a Russian style and decided he was called Ivan. Sadly Ivan was brutally murdered by local kids, but I have photographic evidence of him. Then flatmate J came home, having also been unable to get to work, and we went to Greenwich Park, where there was lots of snow and many people sledging. There was a real holiday atmosphere, people were chatting randomly, it was wonderful. I feel like I've been properly on holiday. J and I also spent a lot of time throwing snow at each other, I got a lot of snow in the face. My skin feels like I've been on holiday as well! When we got home flatmate A was also home, and in a fit of holiday enthusiasm, I made us all roast chicken. It was great.
Today has been fabulous. I'm not looking forward to trying to get to work tomorrow, but today has been worth every minute.
