Hi all,
There's been a bit of discussion behind the scenes here at
the-safehouse about the community tags as they are at present. We have some ideas about changing them, and would be happy for any input from members.
Firstly, some information about lj tag limits:
1. An unpaid account can have up to 1000 different tags.
the-safehouse uses a mere 50 at present, so we can increase the range of tags we use quite a lot.
2. A tag can be used for up to 1000 entries. As we have some tags with over 400 entries, this will eventually become an issue.
3. Tag selection will allow readers to go back in history to a maximum of 400 tags. After that it is only possible to go back through each day's entries looking for results. This is already an issue for a few frequently used tags.
4. Also, 400 tags is a lot to wade through looking for one vaguely remembered post. We want to make searching easier!
The tag that has had the most use is non-pros appearances (438 entries). At the most basic, we could (replace) divide these into:
not-pros: lc - tv and film
not-pros: lc - stage
not-pros: lc - other appearances
then do the same for Martin (ms) and Gordon (gj) and anyone else who crops up occasionally (example - not-pros: {actor}).
We can also have a specific tag for those appearances that rate a lot of posts. George Gently perhaps? Cuckoo Waltz?
So this is the plan at present. We'll probably start to implement it quite quickly, but it might take a while to finish, as there are a lot of posts to update. Meanwhile, what do you think?
ETA 1 & 2: This is the first of a few changes we have in mind - we'll keep you updated about the others! Also, there's a link to the tags page on the sidebar that was added recently.
