Getting a police clearance for a possible project: around here, it's a standard form to fill out at the post office. Then the state police eventually send you an official letter saying "As of date X we have no record of this person having committed or being charged with a crime."
Fairly straightforward.
Only the thing is, a lot of businesses and other institutions only tend to accept the clearance as valid for about a week after the issue date - because, ya know, despite a couple of decades of law-abidingness, TODAY might be the day I decided to ram-raid a busload of nuns through an orphanage.
I received the latest in a series of clearances today (April 20). The date of issue is April 15. The Easter holiday period which starts the day after tomorrow runs until the 26th inclusive because we also have ANZAC Day backing onto it. Which means that the first time I can show the clearance to anyone is probably the 27th - by which time it will be close on two weeks old.
Given these clearances are over fifty bucks a pop for admin costs, I can't help thinking it might have been helpful to ask me for one of these AFTER Easter, instead of before...
