Despereaux
Caught The Tale of Despereaux today.
Eh. The visuals were nice, and the design was good, but it fell down horribly on things like coherence of narrative. There was far too much Ratatouille, Flushed Away, and obvious video-game scenes and settings, and not nearly enough classic fairytale quest, which I think it would have done better with.
Many of the characters are under-realised (Botticelli, Pea, Despereaux), over-realised (Mig), and/or severely underutilised (most of the cast). It really did need a better director. Plot threads went nowhere or spasmed all over the place.
The voice casting was wonderful, though.
