Just finished Jasper Fforde's First Among Sequels. I swear, at times it deliberately piles metafictional levels one on top of the other just to see if it can break its readers' brains.
In my case, of course, it makes me caper about gurgling "Glee!" and breaking into peals of variably sane laughter.
Meet Thursday Next. One of her daughters doesn't exist. Her father sometimes exists and her husband sometimes doesn't. Her son multiply exists. Her job is a cover for an undercover job which is a cover for the UNDER-undercover job in which fictionalised versions of herself are trying to alternately irritate and kill her. That is, when she's not fighting the largest corporation on the planet and the combined forces of the time-travelling Chronosquad.
Exploding Welsh cheese, ghosts, demons, a bus to nowhere, and the possible erasure of everything ever, including the Thursday Next series itself!
