I bought my first piece of fansign the other day at Supanova - a rather low-quality jackety thing with an Autobot symbol on the back. It was a genuine spur of the moment purchase - I've never bought wearable/displayable stuff which marked me specifically as a fan of something, mostly because I tend to overthink such things. And also because usually they're of awful quality, massively overpriced, and never have the exact look I'd be comfortable wearing.
I did like the $5 Predacon-symbol T-shirts on sale in the same building, despite it not really being the symbol I'd prefer, and eventually went to go buy some, only to find out that they'd sold out of my size. Ah well.
I did look up a couple of custom T-shirt/clothing places in Australia (and Perth specifically), but it seems that the only places which will let me use my own graphics and order print runs of less than five items are charging something like $35 for a cheap tee and $70 for a low-quality zipped jacket or hoodie.
This seems... excessive.
Ideally, I'd like some convention gear which consisted of a jacket with customised fansign on at least the back, able to be optionally zipped open at the front to reveal a T-shirt with a more personalised graphic on it. From the back, I'd be displaying a (simple) mashup of the brand-related symbols and whatnot I liked, along with the names of various groups I'm part of. From the front, I could opt to fairly comprehensively ID myself so people from those groups would know who I was (assuming we hadn't met IRL before).
Photos of me including the visible T-shirt would also be able to be easily IDed later on by other group members who had not been physically present. There wouldn't be any of the "And here's a photo of our well-known board members A and B, plus some other guy no-one can remember the name of."
I just don't feel like a plain hoodie or zip-jacket with graphic should run more than about fifty bucks, and I'm somewhat reluctant to pay more than about $10 a printed tee, especially if I'm going to be coughing up for half a dozen or so.
I have to wonder if there are cheaper options somewhere...
