Finished unpacking the unboxed/carded toys I ordered. Unfortunately, I still have a huge lack of space for storing them, so at the moment my desk is covered in characters from Beast Machines and Cybertron as well as the Classics. I even have a Movie Brawl glaring at me from atop the printer.
The boxed toys are being accusingly mute from a pile on the floor. I really do need a couple more bookcases.
Thoughts:
I do like the way Brawl's cannon ends up on his arm without having to detach it, and how this doesn't affect the ability of the tank turret to swivel 360 degrees. The double claw on the other arm is cute, and retaining his missile packs in both modes is a nice bit of design. The minesweeping forks are probably a bit much. Nice homage to the original Combaticon, too, from the tank-front chest to the visible tracks on the lower legs to the turret backpack to the additional twin cannons to the green colour. It's a real pity his shoulders unpeg themselves so easily.
Clocker's robot mode is all kinds of weird. From the gorilla arms to being unable to hold his Cyber Key-equipped weapon with a bent elbow, to the under-forearm blasters/pipes. The front bumper does make a nice little backpack effect, though. The weapon itself kind of cheaped out, I feel, by not having the barrels springloaded as well.
The plastic making up Storm Jet feels cheap enough to be a knockoff. And to be honest, I'm not a big fan of the crotch-hanging-down-to-the-knees design. G1 Jetfire could get away with it because the toy was fantastic and the lines flowed well. Storm Jet just looks like his legs should be dangling from his armpits.
Signal Flare's got some nice design touches - the weapons and the torso transformation, mainly - but I don't really care for the trailing arm in vehicle mode.
Shortround is all kinds of misproportioned weirdness, but for some odd reason it seems to work. Even if it _does_ look like he rebuilt himself out of scrap of all different sizes.
Beast Machines Mirage and Scavenger are almost as cool as I'd imagined. I do wish Scavenger's torso clicked together more firmly, though.
