Late-night hamsterwheeling

Ah, the things we do to avoid going to bed at 2am.

After running across a "describe your avatar" post in a site I frequent, I decided that a lack of art supplies (and, indeed, art skills) was not going to prevent me from having a crack at drawing a creature which until now has only occupied various corners of my brain.

Scouring the house produced a single 2B pencil and an ancient ream of A4 copier paper. Some GISing quickly came up with the assorted animals whose body parts had been incorporated into the Frankensteinian chimera in the first place. Some eyeballing and quick sketching produced a black blob of lines in which the rough lines of what I was after could dimly be seen if I squinted.

I just needed to trace those lines. Unfortunately, no tracing paper. No convenient lightbox, either. And the desk is veneered in a darkish wood.

Time for MAD SCIENCE!

One plastic kitchen cutting board and a flatpanel monitor later (after having tried and discarded six CDROM drives, half-reams of paper, and a number of other components), a lashed-up lightbox was born!

And I even uncovered an ancient flatbed scanner lurking in the junkpile! Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find the DC powerbox that goes with it, so with the camera gone I'm kind of stuck as to options for getting it online. I did have another scanner back in Canberra, but I gave it away when I moved.

I wonder if I can get hold of a 24V, 550mA, positive-on-the-inside DC power box anywhere in Perth?
