Other stuff that needs inventing?

Huh. Looks like the Autofit bra is a popular concept. Is there anything else that needs to be invented? Examples:
- women's clothing with more pockets
- clothing price parity for men's and women's stuff
- plushie Hasbro characters
- car engines that lift themselves out of the car so they can be worked on more easily ( Read more... )

...women's clothing with more pockets

This one always boggles me.

It's one of those weird little m/f disjoints. I consider pockets one of the primary reasons to have pants - pants without pockets are unthinkable.

But women I know have a really hard time getting pants with pockets.

Why this should be astounds and amazes me - pockets are so ... fundamental to pants!

((I'm too lazy to log out. It's Seiber))

Our pockets are tiny! It's not fair.

I said recently: "So only buy pants with pockets! They'll get the idea!"
To which the reply was, "You don't understand! I *can't* buy pants with pockets!"

Yeah. I never understood the reasoning behind pocket-less women's pants either. My best guess is it's something like this -

"Pocket would create unsightly bulges/make their hips look big/spoil the sleek lines!"

"Women always carry purses, why would they need pockets?"

"Women don't need wallets; their husbands carry the money, right?"

Okay, so I'm cynical, but it's notable how a lot of women's clothing is made to be impractical. It may not be Chinese foot binding, but it's still a subtle form of hampering us.

In other words - the reason women's pants don't have pockets is because men would never put up with pocketless pants!

There was actually a story I read at one point where the editor of a major women's magazine decided that pockets were going to be the next "in" thing for women's clothes. "Sod it all," she said, "let's start making a point of advertising clothes with pockets." It would have been a watershed for women's clothing design, but for the rapid (and presumably heroic) action of the advertising manager, who pointed out exactly how many handbag manufacturing firms were paying exactly how many dollars to buy advertising space in the magazine.

The idea died.

Women's pants are designed by men to give women a reason to keep men around (i.e. to bear the pockets).

Bullshit. Or, it's not even close to that simple. I could just as easily say that women buy pants without pockets to give them a *means* for keeping men around.

I really don't think it's that simple - and I don't think the female consumer is that easily absolved. There's not a woman in the (western) world who only wears what her male partner buys her.

If more women bought pants with pockets, there'd be more women's pants with pockets.

It was a joke dude.
But see my comment to someone else. I want pockets, but I have enough trouble finding trousers that *fit* without worrying about anything else. I usually have to buy trousers that in fact don't quite fit and need to be worn with long shirts to hide the gape or to be taken in at the waist as well as hemmed at the bottom.
