I awoke this morning after a wild night out (three virginities under my belt - Jesus Christ, Sonia, chill out!!) with Ian shaking me.
"Sonia! Wake up! Obama's inauguration speech!"
I rocketed out of bed and zoomed downstairs to put the kettle on. Shortly thereafter, in my robe and a wool coat given me by a lady at church, sipping on a chai in a swivel chair, I watched beautiful Barack Obama become our nation's 44th President. I gaped at Aretha Franklin's hat, cheered and waved an imaginary flag like a goosegog, teared up at Obama's speech and joined in the national anthem, singing an alto part. I texted absolutely everybody and bounced around the house. I feel like a kid on Christmas.
We did it.
This is an historic day, and I am so proud and grateful to be a part of it.
Change is coming.
I can't wait.
