Happy New Year, one and all! In 2012 I am resolved to post more, which, looking at my record of posting in 2011, I believe I've already achieved. YAY!

Despite its being recommended in all the right places, I'd not managed to see the first series of Sherlock, so in the spirit of in-with-the-new I sat down to watch A Scandal in Belgravia on New Year's Day.

And hello! Wake my brain up from its post-Christmas slump, why don't you. That's what I want from a TV show. Whip-smart back-and-forth between complicated characters; the tingle-tangle of chemistry; a bedrock of man-love holding it quietly, matter-of-factly together. TV where sexy and cool is not the veneer painted on, nor the motive behind it, but the reward for the density of plot; the deftness of touch; the depth of detail: for the confident camerawork and the pitch-perfect performances. Also, for the record, COAT! I was hypnotised, and, apparently, hyphenised. I hardly dare watch tonight's episode in case I don’t enjoy it as much. And I really don't like The Hound of the Baskervilles. Make me like it, show!

Now I am off to my grandparents', so I will adjourn. Hello, brevity!
