I went out to The Catalyst Foundation on Thursday. The trip was a pain because the buses were way off schedule (out of the five I took only one was on time) but it wasn't a total waste.
They didn't have any references to LGBT friendly doctors. After I explained my situation the lady at the desk told me, "You live in the wrong town." Yeah, I know.
Fortunately the doctor who worked there (Dr. Lind) was much more helpful. He was very supportive, and he gave me a link to a newly-formed LGBT group in town. He even offered to put me on testosterone if things don't work out with my current doctor. I haven't even met her yet though, so I don't want to write her off without even trying.
The medical group that she's with (Molina) doesn't cover trans care, but medical does and she could give me a referral. That way I could keep her as my PCP and still have him overseeing my hormone therapy. Worst case scenario? She doesn't get it, so I end up switching plans and going with Dr. Lind anyway.
It's good to have a back-up plan. Even better to know that there's actually someone who's supportive here in town. This is the first time I've actually met someone IRL who respects me for who I really am.
