Bike weights

Jan 04, 2009 12:34

I was working on my backup bike today, making sure it's in ridable condition should the need arise. I couldn't help but notice that the backup bike was a lot easier to sling around than my LHT (and indeed, easier than it used to be before I stripped it of accessories).
Being numerically inclined, this begged for a weigh-in. This is more representative than my last weighing because my everyday kit has stabilised. Both weights are "as I would get on them and ride". Error of measurement is at least +-0.5kg.

Backup bike (inc. small cable lock, otherwise just frame, wheels, pedals, saddle): 13kg
LHT (inc. lights, seat bag, water bottle, tool bottle, D lock, 1 empty1 pannier): 20.5kg

The LHT is still the easier ride. The 2000km review will come soon, I should reach the mark by Friday.

1 For certain values of empty. The pannier always contains sunscreen, map, shoulder strap and occy strap.
