sorry dude, but UT2004 eats UT and UT2003 for breakfast. Quake4 is so far beyond Quake2 it's unspeakable. Quake3 is still my favourite "arena deathmatch" game, although i'm almost converted to the UT cult now. Halflife2 was not quite as much better, but still worth playing AFTER you've finished HL1, and Civ4 is actually a serious improvement over any that came before, and is worth ditching the old ones for IMHO.
that, and my new laptop plays any of them. at full or nearly-full graphics quality.
that all said, however, Doom3 sucked more bollocks than the Hoff has had cameos. Prince of Persia: The Warrior Within is completely forgettable after playing The Sands of Time, and somehow i can never get past how much Tie Fighter rocked. still haven't played a better starfighter game to this day.
i have it on the best of opinion that The Sims2 is a marked improvement, and i'll let you know how Black & White 2 compares once i get a copy for the GF.
the moral of the story is thus: the latest and greatest are not always better, but more often than not worth a try. if you have the hardware the take it, that is.
