I just bought this guy:
The Down Under Snowy River Legend
"Truly handsome, timeless and totally functional... that's the Snowy River Legend. Considerable time and precision has been taken to build each one with a special low maintenance fleece panel which distributes the rider's weight evenly over a larger area of the horse's back. You'll find it deep seated, secure and above all, unsurpassed in comfort for horse and rider. The saddle horn is securely attached to the steel gullet and angled forward out of your way, but always there when you need it. Beautiful soft black Nubuck leather gives this saddle a rich, quality look. Totally hand-crafted, so production is limited."
Plus a pretty black breastplate and a shaped blanket. I was going to go for a western rigging surcingle, but figured I could just use a converter later on if I don't dig the buckles, save myself a nice chunk of change, which I guess will go toward boots. Which are, seriously, harder to choose than saddles.
In case you're ever in the market for a saddle, I purchased this from
Down Under, and though I don't know yet how happy I'll be with the purchase, I can say they have absolutely excellent customer service. I've been on the phone with and e-mailing a lady for three days, asking questions and getting prices and talking fit... and there was never any pressure, and she was super nice and super helpful and patient.
