Full of prizes! Privateering seems to suit Jack, or maybe it was that Martin was shipped as the surgeon's mate and not the parson. :D
A run up the coast and Jack's easy taking of the ship carrying the quicksilver and the other ship chasing it... then, just sort of saying he should also like to take the three ships in the harbor, and pulling it off like nothing.
The children and receiving thanks from the merchantmen for Jack's actiony against that annoying ship! All those silver dishes!
Padeen's drug abuse, Stepehen's confusion at why his ladanum (unknowing or its frequent dilution by Padeen) was not answering as it once did. The cook! A devil worshipper! The Sethians and the name on the side of the boat, and Jack's easy understanding and suggesting a bit of sailcloth rather than painting over the name.
The action to take the Diane at St. Martin's! What a pretty piece of work! Gunboats and Merchantmen and all! And Jack shot in the back! The pain of its removal, his confusion that it was only his leg since the ball was pressing against his sciatic.
Jack's father, dead in a ditch. And most adorably Jack bonding with the very young Philip, his half brother. So delightful. Such a wonderful side of Jack. And Jack being offered a seat and soon after HIS NAME PUT BACK ON THE LIST! With only technical delay.
Stephen! Carrying the Blue Peter back to Diana. Diana! So spirited. I might have hated her once, but I now have to love her as Stephen does. Of course she did not runoff with Jagiello. And of course she still loves Stephen in her way. I was so glad that they made up, and came to understand all those misunderstandings. And then Stephen's inevitable overdose! Largely thanks to Padeen! Diana being so tender, Stephen's delusions, dreams of ballons, that green coat he found so shocking. I loved Diana's reaction to the diamond, to Stephen's wealth, and her happiness to return with him. And what a glorious ending, her riding to the ship ahead of Stephen's chase. "I'm his wife, have the carpenter stringup a hammock for me there!" And all the singing and the uncommon genuine happiness of such an ending. Remarkable.
