Hollom and the gunner's wife! Murdered by the gunner! The Gunner's suicide and Howard shooting whatever it was that made that awful wailing sound and had the whole crew so upset. A very creepy book at times.
Stephen and Martin and the birds on the Galapagos; Stephen falling out the stern window and Jack diving in after, unseen by the watch and drifting at sea for days only to be picked up by canibalistic, anti-male, polynesian women!; Jack nearly emasculated; Stephen falling through the hatch, striking his head on a gun and nearly trepanned! Butcher, the Norfolk's surgeon, so disappointed that he would not have a chance to use Stephen's Trephine!
It is funny how often chases and missions do not end in battle!, that for a whole book and through such terrible weather and madness and murder and who knows how many miles they should chase a ship, only to find it sunk when they come upon it. No battle, no prize, but no less climactic, really.
