To Minwoo, Jeongmin has always been elusive. There is no doubting it. Minwoo was after him, no word of a lie. He wanted to kiss him, he wanted Jeongmin’s hands to crawl up his shirt tracing the contours of his chocolate abs, and he wanted to do dirty things with Jeongmin. Things Donghyun would be horrified to know the maknae was thinking, lusting after and if it happened - doing. Minwoo groaned, lying back in his bed. He knew he needed to stop these thoughts, they weren’t right. Jeongmin was just a band mate, and he was too young, too short, too everything Jeongmin was better than.
He wanted him. He craved him. He knew Jeongmin knew this and the elder was constantly messing with him, flirting as if to say I’m interested. But then shutting down if they got closer, or if Minwoo tried to make a move, and quite honestly it was frustrating. Minwoo rolled onto his side, it was midnight and the dorm was quiet, his favourite time of day because he could just admire Jeongmin sleeping in the bed next to his, without anyone knowing.
Well that’s what he thought but he was disturbed by Hyunseong. “You should stop staring at him. You make him uncomfortable.” Minwoo looked at Hyunseong and just shook his head. “Actually you make all of us uncomfortable. We all know you want him.” Minwoo shook his head but Hyunseong rolled his eyes. “You are obvious. Donghyun just doesn’t have the heart to tell you, but you need to control yourself.” Minwoo felt like bursting into tears. “I mean we all feel sorry for you and all, even if he did like you he wouldn’t let you date him easily, but-“
“I get it hyung.” Minwoo nodded, so the others pitied him, just fantastic. They all pitied him because he’d fallen for Jeongmin who would never be interested in him. Minwoo got up and walked out, he needed to leave the room, he needed to leave and calm down a little, he could feel his eyes welling up and the last thing he wanted was to cry. To cry and make them pity him more. He walked out to see Donghyun sat on the sofa reading some novel. He looked up at Minwoo and looked concerned, before he could say anything, Minwoo quickly said. “Please don’t say anything.” Donghyun sighed and went back to his book.
Minwoo went and sat on the kitchen floor, his back pressed against the island counter. He pulled his knees up to his chest and rested his head on them. He didn’t know what was worse, how it was general consensus that he was in love with someone who would never love him back or that everyone in the band pitied him and his stupid crush. Minwoo finally let himself cry, keeping himself as quiet as possible, he didn’t want Donghyun to come in after hearing him sob. Minwoo hated the idea of the elder seeing him cry, well he hated anyone seeing him cry and especially now after being told they all pitied him.
Minwoo woke up when he felt someone pick him up. Minwoo moved into their arms a little and fell back asleep as he fell asleep when he was laid in his own bed. Minwoo stirred in the morning to find himself alone in the bedroom, until Donghyun walked in with two mugs and handed one to Minwoo. “You look better than I thought you would.” Minwoo scowled a little. “I mean you cried yourself to sleep in the kitchen.” Minwoo looked into his mug. “I thought your face might be a little swollen but it looks fine to me.” Minwoo opened his mouth but Donghyun shook his head. “I haven’t told the others if that’s what you’re worried about. What made you cry? Jeongmin again?” Donghyun sighed.
“You know, you really have to move on.” Donghyun took a careful sip as if he was trying to stall time. “Because he isn’t interested and you shouldn’t be interested. It’s making everything awkward for everyone in the group.” Donghyun sighed. “Look, it’s never going to happen, move onto I don’t know someone in another group, an actor, an actress, whatever. Just not him.” Donghyun looked away, Minwoo knew he hated being like this, he hated telling the others how to act and feel.
“It’s not that simple Hyung.” Minwoo said watching Donghyun carefully. Donghyun shook his head, Minwoo felt bad - he knew Donghyun wouldn’t be saying anything if this wasn’t serious to Donghyun.
“Look it’s getting out of hand, we can’t have you crying yourself to sleep in the kitchen over him.” Donghyun sighed again, still avoiding eye contact. “Just please try to move on, because how long is it before you breakdown into tears about it in front of the press, the fans, someone who will tell people. It will destroy all our careers if you do.” Donghyun got up, “Just please think about what I’ve said.” Minwoo closed his eyes again and let himself fall asleep, thinking on Donghyun’s words.
Minwoo woke up and saw Jeongmin sat on his bed looking at him. “Why do you love me?” Jeongmin whispered, “Why me?” he looked at Minwoo and tried to smile. “Why do you love me enough to throw everything away.” Jeongmin looked as Minwoo moved to sit up and face Jeongmin.
“Because your smile.” Minwoo shrugged, “It makes my day, it makes the world colourful, it got me through the hard times knowing you’d smile again. It was my reason for not quitting because I knew I’d miss that beautiful smile.” Minwoo looked straight at Jeongmin. “You in general just make the world feel warmer, but your smile is the icing on the cake. I’m in love with you.” Minwoo said getting up and moving to make his bed he needed to get up, if he stayed in bed the others would think something was wrong. Minwoo didn’t know why but he moved and kissed Jeongmin before the other could work out what he was going to do.
Minwoo was surprised when Jeongmin kissed back, his arm reaching up to wrap around the younger’s neck. They kissed until they both parted, Minwoo pecked Jeongmin’s lips. “W-We can’t do this.” Jeongmin breathed out, “This was a mistake.” Minwoo took a step back and looked at Jeongmin as if he had just been shot.
“You kiss back and then say that.” Minwoo breathed and Jeongmin stood up as well and took a step closer. “No. Don’t” Minwoo shook his head and tried to focus on speaking. “You kissed me back out of pity right? Or was it just because I said I loved you? Because either way is pretty shallow.” Minwoo immediately regretted saying that as Jeongmin looked at him hurt.
“Minwoo.” Jeongmin said quietly. “You are aware that regardless of what I feel you have to stop your feelings.” Jeongmin looked away from Minwoo. “We can never be together. We can’t risk the group. Donghyun would be put in a hard place and would have no choice but to tell the manager, who would force us apart because he couldn’t risk us giving ourselves away. So think what you want about the kiss. Just stop loving me.” Jeongmin looked at the ground.
“Tell me how you feel first.” Minwoo said quietly. “Tell me exactly how you feel.”
“No” Jeongmin said before facing Minwoo. “I’m not telling you anything. You’re going to forget about the kiss, you’re going to forget about how my smile warms up your world and you are going to do your job as a member of this group, that is what you’re going to do.” Jeongmin hissed knowing not to shout at the younger boy. He did not want the group to know this conversation was happening and he especially did not want them to know that he had kissed the younger.
“I have to know how you feel.” Minwoo said softly. “I know it won’t change anything. Do you like me?”
Jeongmin hesitated and then looked straight at Minwoo. “No, I don’t” he lied, but he knew this was what he had to do. “I don’t think of you like that.” Jeongmin said before looking at his hands. “So please move on, don’t look at me affectionately, just as your hyung.”
“But why did you kiss back?” Minwoo asked. Jeongmin just shook his head and moved to leave the room. Minwoo sighed, he guessed Jeongmin would always be elusive.
