I started pulling up the kitchen carpet today, and guess what?

Yes, this is a whine/gripe post.

Anyway, I finally pulled up enough carpeting to really see what I was dealing with. And not only is the carpet glued to the floor, but also it seems that whomever choose carpet, did so because there were TWO layers of linoleum already on the floor that they only partially removed.

A newer, mock-stone one that's still likely 20+ years old, and an even older one so thin and worn that you can almost see the wood beneath it.

Poking at it, I'm pretty sure that the top layer will shatter and break up with little work. The original layer however may or may not come off. Which, I suppose, I can prime and cover with something for a good surface. Though that may take some research, since I don't believe this is covered in my flooring book. So, if I can, it's definitely coming up.

But goodness gracious --this is kind of like Home Archeology.
