How far we have progressed
Now here is a case of amazing timing.
On Yahoo, the headline is about Abramoff getting 70 months in prison for his various efforts. Here is a man who has been buying government and bilking people for at least ten years and he is going to get less than 6 years in prison. Why? Because the man is singing like a nightingale. When rats like this go down, they make sure to drag as many as possible down with them. I think we will be hearing about a lot of congressmen and senators (both parties) being tarred with this brush.
Meanwhile, my sister is watching Angels with Dirty Faces, the old Jimmy Cagney film about gangsters and political corruption.
Talk about timing.
Yeah, we've come so far since the 1920s...
Do we still have massive levels of political corruption? Yes. Do we still have a massive divide between the Haves and Have Nots? Yep. How about powerful, influential, dangerous criminal gangs? Check. Fear and anger over immigration? Ditto.
