Aparently there is a limited amount of 'First World' and 'they' are going to take it from 'us'

There seems to be a fad in recent news complaining aka fear mongering  about (insert country here) to be the next superpower, or to be overtaking (insert your country) in a subject of choice, be it education, economical growth and any number of other things. It is always portrait as a threat.

Isn't the whole world achieving a higher living standard a good thing and the goal?  Can we only measure 'our 'accomplishments by other people being worse off?

Maybe I watch too much Star Trek, but I like the idea of most of/ all the world enjoying a high living standard as the goal not the enemy.

'They' are not going to come and take our jobs. It is a most ridiculous fear to have of places that have a high living standard. I do not see Europeans queue up taking jobs from Americans. It is not the people who have a good life (in masses at least) who go and seek jobs in other countries, it is those whose living conditions suck. Raising the world wide living standard does not 'take our jobs', quite the opposite. If out-sourcing is no longer profitable, guess what, those jobs would come back, because transportation is less costly next door.

There is the other claim that resources are finite. This is only technically true. A hundred years ago no one would have thought nuclear power possible on the scale that we are using it now. All that  finite resources actually mean is that we need to find new ways of doing things, of fuel use etc. But we are already doing this, just compare the development over the last 100, 50 or even 20 years. As long as we do not become stagnant and refuse to try new ways and technologies I do not see any risk or even threat.

Nevermind that even if there were finite resources, this would and does not excuse a mindset that basically boils down to "I got mine, fuck everyone else".

I am honestly disgusted and disappointed in the racism and supremacy ideology this fear mongering is feeding on. Especially when even people who do know better on other occasions are participating in it.
