Thanks so much for posting that! They're beautiful, and it's awesome seeing actual pictures of that time period. The first one, with the well, is my favorite. It's startling, the similarities between that and similar pictures I have of my own family from that time period.
My fiance really loved it, too - he's a Buddhist, very into martial arts (Tai Kwan Do for a long time and now we do T'ai Chi) AND history, and speaks a bit of German. It hit all of his "ooh, cool" buttons. :)

They are really cool, aren't they. What I find amusing, though, is the ones that look like your average tourist photos XD
It's sad, though that they don't have notes to go along with it, not from the original expedition at least.
