Poll suggests tide turning against cuts

A new opinion poll has suggested the tide of public opinion is turning against the government's deficit reduction plan.

A Mail on Sunday/BPIX poll put Labour at 37%, the Tories on 35% and the Lib Dems at just ten per cent.

Seventy per cent of respondents said cuts would cause widespread social unrest. Fifty-four per cent said the cuts would cause a double-dip recession...

UK growth set for sharp slowdown

UK growth is expected to have slowed sharply in the third quarter when the first reading of gross domestic product is released on Tuesday...

The consensus forecast among economists is for the data to show the UK economy grew at 0.4 per cent in the third quarter, down from the 1.2 per cent rate registered in the second quarter.
However, the range of forecasts range from a quarterly contraction of 0.2 per cent to growth of 0.8 per cent highlighting the uncertainty surrounding the UK economy...
