I have worked for several corporations. It is all I know. After getting into the down and dirty with two out of the three, I can tell already Starbucks is a great company to work for. I have heard (too) many corporate mission statements, and while I respect the corporation for what it is, to make money, Starbucks has the best mission statement of all three. And it shows.
At P.F. Chang's we "are truly happy that you are here, and will do anything to make you come back again." Reading that when I was hired, I thought it was a perfect statement, showing awesome signs of customer service. But is that really how a corporation should be ran? Should we really be concerned if our guests come back again? If P.F. Chang's is really doing what (I imagine) we should be doing, should we have to worry about whether or not a guest would come back in? That is a given. They will be back, but next time, with friends.
Starbucks wants to establish itself as the "premier purveyor of the finest coffee in the world while maintaining our uncompromising principles while we grow." Now that is a mission statement. Fuck the bottom line, we know that what we have to offer will bring customers back. With that, we reap our profits.
Starbucks really takes care of their employees in every single way. Much respect for this "corporate monster"! Even though they may be huge and standardizing, they know that every person that makes them successful is nothing less than a person, and they return the favor!
And I don't care about what you say, but Starbucks has some tasty coffee (now, for FREE!)!
