Summary: John reflects on his love for Rodney one morning.
John lay and watched the sun coming up through the window. There were no blinds up yet; they hadn’t got that far. In fact, they’d only managed to pull some sheets onto their mattress before collapsing and passing out. They hadn’t even managed a quick fumbling which was probably a first for them both.
“You’re awake,” Rodney said sleepily from his side as he stretched an arm over John’s chest.
“Yeah,” John replied, reaching up to thread his fingers with Rodney.
He couldn’t quite believe that he was going to wake up like this, every day, next to the man he loved. Sure they were back on earth - John discharged from the air force and Rodney leaving with him - back to being ‘normal’ with all the other humans, nine to five jobs awaiting them and having to pay bills, worry about what to make for dinner at night amongst many other ‘normal’ things. But they were together, and that was all that mattered.
“The sun wake you up too?” Rodney asked him, nuzzling into his neck.
“That it did,” John said with a smile, turning his head to lay a kiss on top of Rodney’s messy hair.
Rodney looked up at him, big blue eyes blinking away sleep before he smiled, “You wanna hide from it?”
John raised an eyebrow at him, “Hide?”
Rodney’s grin got even bigger before he reached down and pulled the duvet up and over their heads, effectively blocking out the sun. John couldn’t help but let out a small chuckle and wrap his arms around Rodney as the other man slid on top of him.
“Why didn’t I think of that?” John asked, enjoying the feeling of being encased by the man above him.
“I wouldn’t expect a simpleton such as yourself to come up with a genius idea like that, so you can be excused,” Rodney deadpanned.
“Thank you, I appreciate it.”
He felt more than saw Rodney smile against his lips before he was pulled into a soft, lazy kiss and he was reminded of the fact that so long as they were together and had each other, it didn’t matter what they had left behind. They were happy and in love and powered with that, could defeat the entirety of the Wraith. They’d be unstoppable.
