Okay, so, madness.
My insane busyness finally wrapped up a few weeks ago. Unfortunately things haven't been real good in picking back up again, and of course I'm super nervous about burning through all the money I saved up. Hopefully I can start temping again soon, or get more auditions than the ones I've been playing. Somebody emailed me about working on a new musical, we'll see how that goes!
The apartment has been undergoing a nice transformation into a homey home. First I got curtains and a matching tablecloth, which really did a lot for the front room. Bekah got paintings for the front room as well, and I got a shower curtain liner and a new fan. Also, I got a NEW KEYBOARD. Woo! I decided to do it right this time, and I got a full-length with weighted keys at Mr. Mancini's behest. It usually retails for $500 but I bided my time on EBay and landed a keyboard with a stand and headphones for $350!
I have seen a HELLUVA lot of theater in the past month. When skizdi came we went to see Peter and the Starcatcher and after failing to get rush tickets for Once, Nice Work If You Can Get It. And then I wet and saw Porgy & Bess on my own, and with K Greenleaf coming into town I saw Once with her. And yet there's still so much I want to see! All in all, I think I liked Peter and the Starcatcher the best, even if, as Sarah pointed out, it had some really cheap laughs. I honestly wouldn't mind seeing it again.
Oh, I also played the Outer Critics Circle Awards. I don't think I mentioned that. It was pretty sweet. It was just me playing the piano in a dining room at Sardi's. Audra was there, and James Cordell and James Earl Jones and Jerry Stiller and all sorts of celebs. I transcribed the songs from Death of a Salesman; One Man, Two Guvnors; and Queen of the Mist. The Queen of the Mist people were so excited I had they music, they commented on it in their speech. After that, Andrew Gad asked me if I could play anything, and suggested I play a little Nirvana to kick things up in there. I obliged with the opening chords of "Smells Like Teen Spirit". The room laughed. It was pretty awesome!
