How can I have had such a fantastic time in Chicago and not written a single post?
Some highlights:
- Biking from Katherine's apartment in Andersonville down to Navy Pier along the lake. And back up through hectic downtown Chicago.
- Going to see Where The Wild Things Are with Corey, not having enough time to wait for a table at Kuma's Corner but discovering Pequod's Pizza right by the theater! (IT'S SUPPOSED THE BEST CHICAGO PIZZA IN THE CITY)
- Watching Broadway Moves to Queens (a cast show from the ships) with Katherine and Sarah and having Katherine get so upset by it that she had to leave the room.
- Getting hit on by a gay truck driver (?) at Big Chicks and turning him down.
- Showtunes at Sidetrack with Sarah. Nuff said.
- Surprise visit of Corey at Showtunes, and seeing her face when a whole room full of guys hurled napkins at ceiling at the end of "Don't Cry For Me Argentina."
- Going clubbing with Corey and Maeve in Wrigleyville.
- Biking to Hot Doug's through the rain and chill and having it be line-out-the-door packed on a Thursday afternoon. Pork Onion and Pepper Sausage with sun-dried tomato mustard and ricotta salata. Also Chicago Dog. Unbelievable!
- Biking further south to Humboldt Park to see the Prairie Style Boathouse and then along into Wicker Park to discover a neat little store called Renegade Homemade.
- Seeing John Adams deliver a lecture about Proust and Mann at the Art Institute with Sarah.
- Discovering a Picasso sculpture and a Miro sculpture in the Loop I had never noticed before.
- Seeing Patti with Katherine in Evanston, and having her tell us all about her insane weekend involving Green Day, tattoos and John Gallagher Jr. in San Francisco. Then driving her home and meeting her dogs.
- Seeing the new The Addams Family musical in previews starring Nathan Lane, Bebe Neuwirth, Carolee Carmello, Kevin Chamberlin and Terrence Mann with Sarah and then dishing about how awful it was.
- Waiting outside to meet Bebe Neuwirth, Kevin Chamberlin and Carolee Carmello and tell them how great they were.
- Brunch with Corey at M. Henry.
- Trivia Night with Corey at a bar on Montrose, then catchphrase with her friends.
- The Logan Arts Center Unveiling and seeing people I haven't seen in ages. Also seeing the new dorm.
- Victoria Bartley's birthday party.
- Going back to the Oriental Theater stage door with Sarah to waylay Carolee Carmello and beg her for her signature.
- Chicago itself, buzzing all around me, making me feel a part of something larger than myself.
