Quebec is a charming delight!

I was happily surprised at what a wonderful little city Quebec is. Not only is it rich in History, and the only walled city in North America, but it also possesses some fine cuisine. The maple syrup pie is to die for and the ice wine makes for a tasty finish to any meal. The caribou is also a unique treat. The Highlight was the fields of Abraham where General Montcalm of France lost Canada to General Wolfe of Britain. Not only did Montcalm lose the battle but also his life saying before his death that at least he dies not seeing Canada lost. Ironically, General Wolfe dies in the same battle and legend has it that he said before his last breath that at least he dies knowing he took Canada for England. The battlefield is well persevered and sits on a cliff top overlooking the mighty St. Lawrence River which was the key to controlling Canada. Whoever controlled Quebec control the St. Lawrence and so with Quebec's fall to the British the French colonial dream in America died. Fortunately being French they stubbornly held on to their French language and heritage making Quebec today the most European city in North America. If you are looking for a high class hotel then you can't go wrong with the Chateau Frontenac whose own history and cuisine matches the city it inhabits.
