Ooookay, making my Fanime post a week after it's over. Woohoo!
Friday
Not too much happened on Friday...my god, it was so PACKED! I've never seen Fanime so busy on the first day! There was a line to the dealer's room that went over half the length of the convention center! @_@ Needless to say, we didn't go in the dealer's room on Friday...
We saw Evangelion Rebuild 1.0 - You Are (Not) Alone, and it is FANTASTIC on a big screen. We shopped a little bit in the Artist's Alley (which was HUGE this year!) and went to an awesome panel called "Japanese Culture in Anime & Manga" hosted by Gilles Poitras, who wrote The Anime Companion and several other books. He used an episode of Maison Ikkoku to point out little cultural details and took questions from the audience...it was a really fun panel. And now I really, really want to read/watch Maison Ikkoku. I have no idea why I've never tried out this series when I was such a Rumiko Takahashi freak in high school! *scratches head*
Saturday
Saturday was cosplay day! I went as Tieria from Gundam 00 and Mike wore his BSG uniform again. (Kerry cosplayed on Sunday.) Not much happened during the day other than crazy shopping. I think I dropped about $200 in a 20-minute period, LOL. I have awesome swag this year. :D
Saturday night Kerry went home and Mike went to Popsicle, so I attended the Cosplay Masquerade by myself. I was only able to stay for the first ten entries, and thus I missed the most EPIC Baccano skit ever. :(
I went to the Endless Evangelion Panel hosted by Sean McCoy (ugh) and Carl Van Horn (yay!) which was pretty hilarious at times. They both obviously disagreed on a lot of theories and constantly poked fun at each other. Sean McCoy introduced us to an Eva book called 2015: The Last Year of Riyohji Kaji, and I wants it liek BURNING! Evidently it has Kaji's journal entries during his last year alive, when he was spying on Nerv. Too bad it's in Japanese. ;_;
Then I went to Anime Hell. Which is ALWAYS epic and full of lulz.
Sunday
Cosplayed again...I met up with a bunch of other Gundam 00 cosplayers in the morning and a bunch of photographers took our picture. I met a guy cosplaying Tieria! It was awesome! :D Kerry cosplayed as Sokka from Avatar: The Last Airbender, but I didn't see her for most of the day. Evidently folks were really impressed that she shaved her head. XD
We went to several panels..."Older Titles for Newer Fans" was another awesome Gilles Poitras panel, and I really want to see They Were Eleven now. *adds to Neflix queue* We went to another HCC Cosplay panel on crazy wig & prop building, then went to "History of Anime Fandom," which ended up being pretty funny and quoteworthy. I can't remember the name of the guy who hosted it, but he's been an anime fan since the 70s and lived in Japan through his teens. He had a great story about how he drove 400 km to Tokyo when he was 14 and bargained his way into an animation studio with a huge box of Milky Ways, just so he could watch the animators work. XD
We had another round of Anime Hell on Sunday night. Aaah, Anime Hell.
Monday
...Pretty much just watched AMVS...they were having an AnimeMusicVideos.org Top 100 countdown all weekend, and goddamn, the top two videos were both Naruto. Bullshit. BULLSHIT! They weren't even GOOD Naruto videos! ARRGH *scowly face*
We watched some anime at Mike's apartment, and then I had to go home and finish homework for finals. @_@
The whole weekend seemed to go way too fast. I really need to find other conventions to go to...I need something new. Maybe Comic-Con next year?
Anyway, now I give you...VIDEOS!
