Atoms for Peace - AMOK
I think Thom Yorke is villian and rogue. because he's able to make music that discourages and stuns us but instead of this he cares only about his own taste and don't mind about the audience preferences. he probably thinks he's so special in his independence, the king without a crown, the living legend, and so on. but if he's so cool, he should perform in the empty room. without any spectator to come.
actually, AMOK is dull. it has no life at all. where are the beauty of the melodies, the flight of fantasy, dramatic effect? all these components which used to distinguish his music, they all gone now. and why did he recruit Flea eventually? we can't recognize him in this poor featureless electronic emptiness. it has no colours, no passion, just structures. it's boring and monotonous. it seems that Thom is singing the one track for 45 minutes, when in fact he sings nine ones. but it's so hard to find the difference. it’s so hard to memorize any composition (besides lead-single “Default).
of course, this record as all the records made by Yorke will get universal acclaim. a lot of fans will say they never heard anything more subtle and genious. if he recorded an hour of silence, the reaction probably would be the same. because Thom Yorke is God and gods make no mistake. but it's delusion. he might be wrong, because he's one of us. and in depth of his soul even he understands that his current music is nonsense. all these computer ideas were interesting in The Eraser time, not now. now it's just wretched self-repetition. for sure, millions of people could be unbelievable happy if Mr. Yorke finally dumped his Mac and got a dusty Fender from larder.
